NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU
(And Other Lessons from the Therapy Trenches)
Nobody Cares About You….
Overview
Despite technology allowing us to have more access to resources in the world around us, mental health issues are skyrocketing in this country, with one in five individuals suffering each year. People are desperate for help, but between costly and often unusable insurance in the U.S, and thousands of books written by unlicensed (and licensed!) quacks and so-called coaches, many suffer in silence.
Dr. Ferrari’s debut book, Nobody Cares About You (and Other Lessons from the Therapy Trenches) combines over twenty years of experience in the behavioral health field into one book, summarizing the main solutions for the most common topics that clients bring up day in and day out. This work shares the most valuable insight from her practice, written via a series of chapters based on topics reviewed on a regular basis, across populations, across classes, and across geographical settings.
Promise to the Reader
What this book won’t do; It won’t make you a millionaire. It won’t make you love yourself overnight. It won’t give you the perfect family. It won’t decrease your anxiety. It won’t do anything to improve your life. It won’t change you.
What this book will do; It will give you the tools to use to make changes. It will push you to increase your uncomfortable feelings. It will encourage you to look at everything you don’t like about yourself. It is then up to you to make any changes based on your self-reflection.
Key Selling Points
Nobody Cares About You (and other lessons from the therapy trenches) is a quick reference guide to the main therapeutic issues that come up again and again in therapy sessions, across the populations she works with on a daily basis. Dr. Ferrari presents a no non-sense approach in this guidebook; to paraphrase Sandra Bernhard- cutting through the bullshit and getting real.
The chapters of Nobody Cares About You are derived from topics the clients themselves have singled out as the most salient and memorable lessons provided by Dr. Ferrari. These topics have demonstrably positive results based on direct feedback from her patients and were chosen by Dr. Ferrari based on each topic's ability to assist in patients meeting individual goals and the cessation destructive behaviors.
The goal of this book is to break down what may take weeks of therapy sessions into quick and easy to follow chapters that review difficulties many of us face, then give us a guide to breaking these patterns that are hold us back.
NCAY offers us strategies to help us with relationship issues, whether they are occurring with our friends, partners or spouses, parents, or children. This book holds a proverbial mirror to the face of the readers and asks them to look at the ugliness they are seeing in their behaviors and gives them specific strategies to change these patterns to better their lives.
About the Book
Maybe you’ve had a therapist or coach in the past who promised you the world and said they could help you find your inner millionaire and unleash success. If that were true, they wouldn’t be talking to you, they’d be a millionaire. They are conmen and snake oil salesmen, the essential oils of the mental health profession.
This book is written for people who want to make changes and get real about what isn’t working in their lives. They are the folks who are fed up with doing the same patterns over and over and are ready to get uncomfortable and, yes anxious, to feel better.
What book isn’t; This book isn't your typical self-help, book, because Dr. Ferrari is not your typical therapist. What his book is; It is a mirror in your face, developed to force you to look at what you are doing to put yourself in a place you don't want to be.
As social media becomes the predominant method of interaction and source for “news”, people are in constant contact with more people than ever, yet they feel isolated, alone, and worthless. This book tells them you are alone, and nobody cares about you- but that could be your biggest tool for personal growth and freedom from the pressures of friends, family, and societal norms.
Most self-help books add to the daily pressure of everything you are not. This book embraces that and tells you how to use everything you have (and don’t have) to help you live your best life. This book is not made to reinvent the “therapy wheel”; it simply explains the therapeutic techniques already available in a way that works for clients. How do we know this? Dr. Ferrari’s clients told her! In fact, they are the ones suggested she write this book and suggested the exact “lessons” and techniques that worked for them to finally make therapy “stick.”
The approaches contained in this book apply across the communities Dr. Ferrari has served. It is a direct approach to therapy broken down in what has been found to be most successful in over 20 years of direct field experience.
Use this book to augment your ongoing therapy with your own therapist. After reading my book you may find yourself seeing your therapist through a different lens, realizing that they may have been dancing around a sensitive subject with you rather than being direct. Or maybe after reading NCAY, messages your therapist has been continuously drilling into your head will finally take root. The same message with a different approach. This book is intended for someone that has already tried professional help. If you have an issue (and who doesn't) but haven't sought out a professional, do that first. No one book is going to be able to address the sum of your issues like a real person can. But if you have and feel that either they failed to help you, or you failed to get their message, this is the book to right that ship.
